Shared Purposes

by Lucio Durán

Today I woke with fresh desire to sleep, and despite the temptations I decided to go out and find you, deep down we both know this works only because we never turned it on, but we can still laugh while others point at us with crooked fingers. Just like yesterday, when we met it was a whole lot of nothing, and despite so much absence an improvised kiss was born, we both enjoyed having each other without trusting the way out, when all is said and done we still know how to dance close when third parties invade us. Tomorrow we'll deconstruct the annals of affection once again, and despite not bearing the union we'll stay together. Outside our souls we have no time left to fake a sunset, but we still sing together if passion demands it. We never answered questions that began with "you two" and despite the unknowns we preferred the silence shared by two. At night we hold each other so tight we lose our seams, even knowing there is no pressure that can erase our mistake. We always fall asleep with our backs to each other, you and I, and despite the cold we prefer the lie to the illusion. During the day we kiss and leave separately to find some other love, but we can still be seen walking together, if it's not the sun that lights the way.
